In 1994, produceerde Martin een gelimiteerde oplage van 66 D45's die Gene Autry's origineel repliceerden, die nog steeds te zien is in het Autry Western Heritage Museum in Los Angeles. Dit is nummer 39 van die batch, met een label ondertekend door Gene en C.F. Martin IV.

De meeste mensen herinneren zich Gene Autry als de ultieme zingende Hollywood-cowboy, die speelde in tientallen westerse films en daarvoor een grote radioster was, maar wij gitaarliefhebbers zullen deze naam onmiddellijk associëren met de eerste Martin D45 ooit geproduceerd in 1933. Dat jaar, bestelde Autry de grootste, beste en meest flitsende gitaar die Martin kon maken en dit zou een van de 91 D45's worden die vóór de Tweede Wereldoorlog werden gemaakt.

Dit is nummer 39 van die batch, met een label ondertekend door Gene en C.F. Martin IV. Het is niet alleen een eerbetoon aan Gene Autry, maar ook een nauwkeurig voorbeeld van de vroege Martin dreadnought-ontwerpen. Deze gitaar heeft bijvoorbeeld een 12-frets slope-shoulder ontwerp in plaats van het 14-frets square shoulder model dat we tegenwoordig kennen. Hij heeft ook een gesleufde kop en een bredere topkam.
Afgezien van een paar kleine gebruikssporen is dit een zeldzaam verzamelobject in excellente staat die er opvallend schoon uitziet! Het zou echter bijna zonde zijn om deze gitaar in zijn koffer te laten, want dit is, zoals je mag verwachten van een 12-frets dreadnought, een groots, warm en open klinkend instrument met het unieke karakter en de rijkdom van het Braziliaanse palissander. De toets is vervangen en toont nu de abalone sneeuwvlok inleg, maar de originele toets met 'Gene Autry' inleg zit nog bij de gitaar.

This is #39 of that batch, with an interior label signed by Gene and C.F. Martin IV. It is not only a tribute to Gene Autry, but also an accurate example of those early Martin dreadnought designs. For example, this guitar has a 12-fret slope-shoulder design instead of the 14-fret square shoulder model we know today. It also features a slotted headstock and wider nutwidth.
Besides just a couple small traces, this is a rare collector's item in excellent condition that looks remarkably clean! However, it would almost be a shame to leave this one in its case, because this is, as one might expect from a 12-fret dreadnought, a huge, warm and open sounding instrument with the unique character and richness provided by the Brazilian Rosewood. The fingerboard has been replaced and now displays the abalone snowflake inlay, however, the original fingerboard with 'Gene Autry' inlay is still included with the guitar.
