Manuel Contreras begon zijn carriëre met het werken in de Ramirez werkplaats aan het eind van de jaren 50. Maar hij wilde zijn eigen instrumenten bouwen en begon al snel zijn eigen werkplaats. De Contreras werkplaats werd later gerund door Manuel Contreras II die gitaren bouwde met dezelfde kwaliteit, vakmanschap en innovatie als zijn vader.Â
Dit is de top-of-the-line concert Contreras II, de 1a Especial gemaakt in 1995. De term '1A' staat voor 'primera' ofwel eersteklas. Hij heeft een prachtige palissander klankkast en een perfect generft ceder bovenblad. De gitaar heeft een groots, trots geluid waarmee je met gemak een concerthal kan vullen.
De helderheid en warmte van deze gitaar is typerend voor de beste gitaren die uit Madrid komen sinds de jaren '50. Met name op de body en het bovenblad zijn wat speelsporen, dings en kleine lakchips te vinden. Het bovenblad heeft ook een paar 'hairlines' in de lak. Desalniettemin verkeert deze gitaar nog in zeer goede conditie en wordt hij geleverd in een koffer met TFOA paspoort.

The Contreras workshop was taken over by Manuel Contreras II, who continued to create guitars with the same quality, craftsmanship and innovation passed down to him by his father.
