Gibson F7 Mandolin Sunburst
De Gibson F7 was een vrij kortstondig maar buitengewoon hoog aangeschreven model, gemaakt voor slechts zes jaar tussen 1934 en 1939. Het was in principe een Gibson ‘prewar’ F5 mandoline met eenvoudigere versieringen en met een hals die de body ontmoet bij de 10e fret.
Wat betreft de simpelere kenmerken heeft dit model een crèmekleurige binding, hals, kop en slagplaatbinding en ongebonden F-vormige klankgaten. Het parel-inlegpatroon op de F7, met script Gibson en fleur-de-lis peghead en onderscheidend toetspatroon, is het identieke inlegpatroon dat wordt gebruikt op de Nick Lucas-modelgitaar.
Deze F7 is een waar genot om te bespelen. Hij heeft een zeer helder, warm geluid en produceert genoeg volume. Alle vroege opnames van Bill Monroe in de jaren dertig met zijn broer Charlie werden gespeeld met een F7 uit 1935, en dit instrument is een schitterend voorbeeld van die muzikale erfenis. The Gibson F7 was a fairly short-lived but extremely well regarded model, made for just six years between 1934 and 1939. What it is, essentially, is a Gibson prewar F5 mandolin with simpler appointments, and having a neck that joins the body at the 10th fret.
In terms of the simpler appointments, this model has single-ply cream side, neck, headstock and pickguard binding, and unbound f-shaped soundholes. The pearl-inlay pattern on the F7, with script Gibson and fleur-de-lis peghead and distinctive fingerboard pattern, is the identical inlay pattern used on the Nick Lucas model guitar
This F7 is a real joy to handle and to play. It has a very clear, warm sound, and produces plenty of volume. All of Bill Monroe's early recordings in the 1930s with his brother Charlie were cut with a 1935 F7, and this instrument is fully worthy of that sonic heritage.
