Um mit Gibson zu konkurrieren, brachte Gretsch 1939 die Synchromatic-Serie von Archtop-Gitarren auf den Markt, die in der Fabrik in der Broadway 60 in Brooklyn, New York, gefertigt wurden. Im Laufe der Jahre wurde die Synchromatic-Serie um Flattop-Gitarren erweitert, und Gretsch begann in den 1960er-Jahren auch mit der Gitarrenproduktion in Japan.
Gretsch Synchromatic Flattop Jumbo Prototype
Deze gitaar is een Japanse Gretsch, die veel specificaties deelt met de 125F. Dit prototype heeft een gelamineerde achterkant en zijkanten van gevlamd esdoornhout, samen met een massief sparrenhouten bovenblad met een binding in schildpadmotief. Met een bodybreedte van 430 mm is deze gitaar ongetwijfeld jumboformaat, maar de body is met slechts 89 mm dikte vrij dun. Het bovenblad is volledig vlak, maar de achterkant van de body is gewelfd.
De gitaar heeft ook de opvallende 'Light Bulb'-kop met het Synchromatic-logo en een verstelbare palissander brug op een grote palissander basis met een metalen snaarankerblok. Een slagplaat van schildpadmotief is vastgeschroefd aan de bovenkant, terwijl de ebbenhouten toets is voorzien van parelmoeren Hump Block-inlays. Het prachtige driehoekige klankgat geeft de gitaar zijn onmiskenbare karakter.
Het model heeft een mensuur van 25,5 inch, identiek aan de Town & Country en zijn western-achtige broertje, de Rancher, beide opvolgers van het 125F-model. Deze gitaar komt uit het Gretsch-familiearchief en werd eerder geveild door Julien's Auctions. Een opmerkelijk model dat, met slechts minimale gebruikssporen, er nog bijna als nieuw uitziet en met zijn kenmerkende uiterlijk een prachtige aanwinst is voor elke gitaarcollectie!
This guitar is a Japanese Gretsch, sharing many of its specifications with the 125F. This prototype features laminated flamed maple back and sides, along with a solid spruce top bound with tortoiseshell binding. With a 430mm body width, this guitar is undoubtedly jumbo-sized, but the body, at only 89mm thick, is quite thin. The top is completely flat, but the back of the body is arched.
The guitar also features the striking Light Bulb headstock with the Synchromatic logo, and an adjustable rosewood bridge on a large rosewood base with a metal string anchor block. A tortoiseshell pickguard bolted into the top, while the ebony fingerboard features mother-of-pearl Hump Block inlays. The beautiful triangular sound hole gives the guitar its unmistakable character.
The model has a 25.5 inch scale length which is identical to the Town & Country and its Western-themed sibling, the Rancher, both successors to the 125F-model. This guitar comes from the Gretsch Family Archives, and was previously auctioned by Julien's Auctions. A remarkable model that, with only minimal playwear, still looks almost like new, and with its distinctive appearance, makes a beautiful addition to any guitar collection!

Die Gitarre besitzt außerdem die markante Glühbirnen-Kopfplatte mit dem Synchromatic-Logo und einen verstellbaren Palisandersteg auf einer großen Palisanderbasis mit einem Saitenankerblock aus Metall. Ein Schildpatt-Schlagbrett ist auf die Decke geschraubt, während das Ebenholzgriffbrett mit Perlmutt-Hump-Block-Einlagen verziert ist. Das wunderschöne dreieckige Schallloch verleiht der Gitarre ihren unverwechselbaren Charakter.
Das Modell hat eine Mensur von 25,5 Zoll, die der der Town & Country und ihres Western-Pendants, der Rancher, entspricht – beides Nachfolger des Modells 125F. Diese Gitarre stammt aus dem Gretsch-Familienarchiv und wurde zuvor von Julien's Auctions versteigert. Ein bemerkenswertes Modell, das mit nur minimalen Gebrauchsspuren noch fast wie neu aussieht und mit seinem unverwechselbaren Erscheinungsbild eine wunderschöne Bereicherung für jede Gitarrensammlung darstellt!
