De Epiphone 1961 Les Paul SG Standard is een eerbetoon aan het legendarische origineel: de allereerste SG.
In 1961 werd de oorspronkelijke vorm van het Les Paul-model tijdelijk stopgezet en vervangen door een geheel nieuw ontwerp dat tegenwoordig bekend staat als de SG of 'solid guitar'. Met een tweedelig massief mahoniehouten, dubbel uitgesneden body, heeft hij ook het eendelige mahonie, soepel spelende SlimTaper C-vormige halsprofiel van die legendarische vroege Les Paul SG-modellen.
Hij heeft ook een historisch geïnspireerde lange slagplaat en is uitgerust met een paar Gibson BurstBucker humbucking-pickups die zijn aangesloten op CTS-potentiometers en Mallory-condensatoren, en een Switchcraft output jack en toggle switch.

The Epiphone 1961 Les Paul SG Standard pays tribute to the legendary original: the very first SG.
In 1961, the original shape of the Les Paul model went on hiatus, replaced by an all-new design that is known today as the SG or “solid guitar.” Featuring a two-piece solid mahogany, double-cutaway body, it also has the one-piece mahogany, fast-playing SlimTaper C-shaped neck profile of those legendary early Les Paul SG models.
It also has a historically inspired long pickguard and comes equipped with a pair of Gibson BurstBucker humbucking pickups wired to CTS potentiometers and Mallory capacitors, and Switchcraft output jack and toggle switch.
