​De 14-fret dreadnought is de meest populaire staal-snarige akoestische gitaar ter wereld, en terwijl Collings zeker niet het enige bedrijf in de wereld is die ze bouwen, brengen ze een nieuwe helderheid, diepte en warmte die meestal niet geassocieerd wordt met zo'n grote en diepe gitaar. Hoewel de basweergave ideaal is voor vocale begeleiding, zijn Collings dreadnoughts ook vaak in dienst van bluegrass flatpickers die moet concurreren met inherent luidere instrumenten zoals banjo's en violen. Hoewel de basrespons deze dreadnought perfect maakt voor vocale begeleiding zal een Collings dreadnought gegarandeerd zelfs de meest voorname bluegrass flatpicker tevreden stellen.

De Collings D1AV is gemaakt met een Adirondack sparren bovenblad in plaats van Sitka sparren, en is daarom een echte bluegrass-machine. Adirondack sparren heeft meer volume, is dynamischer en duidelijker dan Sitka en projecteert als een kanon. Deze vooroorlogse kenmerken geven het instrument nog meer headroom over het gehele spectrum van de gitaar, en is indrukwekkend om te zien en indrukwekkend om mee te maken. De varnish finish is ultradun en laat de gitaar nog beter vibreren voor een meer open sound.

Deze Collings D1AV is gebouwd in 2009, en verkeert in excellente conditie.
