De Gibson MK53 was onderdeel van een kortlopende serie experimentele modellen die Gibson in de jaren '70 produceerde. In een tijd waarin het merk zocht naar nieuwe klanken en constructiemethodes, bracht Gibson deze dreadnought uit met een geheel esdoorn klankkast, een ongebruikelijke keuze die het model een heel eigen karakter gaf. De MK53 werd slechts enkele jaren geproduceerd, wat het model tegenwoordig tot een interessante vintage vondst maakt voor verzamelaars en spelers die op zoek zijn naar iets anders dan de standaard Gibson-sound.
Het meest opvallende aan deze MK53 is de combinatie van een esdoorn klankkast met Sitka sparren bovenblad en fan bracing. Deze constructie zorgt voor een heldere, punchy klank met uitstekende projectie en definitie, ideaal voor flatpicking en snelle passages. De C-vormige driedelige esdoorn hals biedt comfortabel speelgemak, terwijl de afneembare rozet een praktisch detail is dat typisch was voor enkele Gibson-modellen uit die periode.
Na bijna 50 jaar ziet deze gitaar er nog prachtig uit! De lak glans nog mooi, en er zijn slechts enkele kleine dings te vinden op het bovenblad. Tevens is er een klein gerepareerd scheurtje in de trussrod cover te vinden. De gitaar gaat momenteel door het leven zonder slagplaat, maar deze wordt wel meegeleverd. Interessant detail is dat de slagplaat wel lange tijd op de gitaar gemonteerd is geweest, zoals we kunnen zien met een blacklight. Een mooie en bijzondere gitaar die elke collectie wat extra's zal geven!

The MK53 was only produced for a few years, making it an interesting vintage find for collectors and players seeking something different from the standard Gibson sound.
The most striking feature of this MK53 is the combination of maple back and sides with a Sitka spruce top and fan bracing. This construction produces a bright, punchy tone with excellent projection and definition, ideal for flatpicking and fast passages. The C-shaped, three-piece maple neck offers comfortable playability, while the removable rosette is a practical feature typical of some Gibson models from that period.
After almost 50 years, this guitar still looks beautiful! The finish still shines beautifully, and there are only a few minor dings on the top. There is also a small repaired tear in the truss rod cover. The guitar currently doesn't have a pickguard, but one is included. Interestingly, the pickguard was actually mounted on the guitar for a long time, as we can see under a blacklight. A beautiful and unique guitar that will enhance any collection!

Nach fast 50 Jahren sieht diese Gitarre immer noch wunderschön aus! Das Finish glänzt noch immer wunderschön, und die Decke weist nur wenige kleine Dellen auf. Die Gitarre hat derzeit kein Schlagbrett, ist aber im Lieferumfang enthalten. Außerdem gibt es einen kleinen reparierten Riss in der Halsstab-Abdeckung. Interessanterweise war das Schlagbrett tatsächlich lange Zeit auf der Gitarre montiert, wie wir unter Schwarzlicht sehen können. Eine wunderschöne und einzigartige Gitarre, die jede Sammlung bereichert!
