The Taylor 552ce combines two things you don't always see together in a 12-string guitar: a Grand Concert body that keeps the size compact, and Taylor's V-Class bracing, which ensures that the tuning of all those strings really stays in order. With a western red cedar top and Expression System 2 pickup, this is a 12-string that holds its own both on the couch and on stage.

De 500-serie is Taylors mahonie-lijn, en de 552ce uit 2020 valt in een periode waarin Taylor de V-Class bracing al volledig had doorgevoerd in hun modellen. Dat bracingsysteem, ontwikkeld door master builder Andy Powers, vervangt het traditionele X-bracing en is specifiek ontworpen om intonatie en sustain beter met elkaar te laten samenwerken, iets wat bij een 12-snarige, met zijn dubbele snaren en extra spanningskrachten, extra relevant is.
Het western red cedar bovenblad geeft de gitaar een warmere, iets donkerdere toon dan je bij een sparren top mag verwachten, en reageert al bij een lichte aanraking goed. Dat maakt hem bij uitstek geschikt voor fingerstyle spelen, maar hij houdt zich ook prima staande bij een stevigere aanpak. De ebben toets en brug geven de gitaar een strakke, heldere articulatie, terwijl het compound halsprofiel prettig in de hand valt over de hele hals. De Expression System 2 pickup doet zijn werk zonder gedoe, en levert een geloofwaardig versterkt geluid.
Deze Taylor 552ce uit 2020 verkeert in excellente conditie. Op de slagplaat zijn enkele kleine krasjes te vinden, net als op de brug. Op de achterzijde van de hals is de matte lak glanzend geworden door het bespelen, en er bevindt zich een kleine ding op de achterzijde van de headstock. De gitaar ziet er verder bijzonder schoon uit, en deze wordt met TFOA paspoort geleverd in een koffer.
The 500 series is Taylor's mahogany line, and the 2020 552ce falls within a period when Taylor had already fully implemented the V-Class bracing in their models. That bracing system, developed by master builder Andy Powers, replaces the traditional X-bracing and is specifically designed to allow intonation and sustain to work together better, something that is especially relevant for a 12-string, with its double strings and extra tension forces.
The Western Red Cedar top gives the guitar a warmer, slightly darker tone than you might expect from a spruce top, and responds well even to a light touch. This makes it ideally suited for fingerstyle playing, but it also holds its own perfectly well with a firmer approach. The ebony fingerboard and bridge give the guitar tight, clear articulation, while the compound neck profile fits comfortably in the hand along the entire neck. The Expression System 2 pickup does its job without fuss and delivers a credible amplified sound.
This 2020 Taylor 552ce is in excellent condition. There are a few small scratches on the pickguard, as well as on the bridge. On the back of the neck, the matte finish has become glossy due to playing, and there is a small blemish on the back of the headstock. Otherwise, the guitar looks exceptionally clean, and it comes with a TFOA passport in a Taylor hardshell case.

Dadurch eignet sie sich ideal für Fingerstyle, überzeugt aber auch bei einem festeren Anschlag. Das Ebenholzgriffbrett und der Steg sorgen für eine präzise und klare Artikulation, während das Compound-Halsprofil über den gesamten Hals angenehm in der Hand liegt. Der Expression System 2 Tonabnehmer verrichtet seine Arbeit zuverlässig und liefert einen überzeugenden verstärkten Klang.
Diese Taylor 552ce aus dem Jahr 2020 ist in exzellentem Zustand. Es gibt ein paar kleine Kratzer auf dem Schlagbrett und dem Steg. Auf der Rückseite des Halses ist die matte Lackierung durch das Spielen glänzend geworden, und es befindet sich eine kleine Beschädigung auf der Rückseite der Kopfplatte. Ansonsten sieht die Gitarre außergewöhnlich sauber aus und wird mit einem TFOA-Pass in einem Taylor-Hartschalenkoffer geliefert.
