This 1940 Epiphone Triumph is a guitar with character and a rich history! The Triumph belongs to the archtop series with which Epiphone made a splash in the 1930s and 1940s, and this example beautifully illustrates why these guitars were so popular with jazz guitarists at the time. De Triumph werd in de jaren '30 geïntroduceerd als onderdeel van Epiphone's ambitieuze archtop-lijn, waarin het merk concurreerde met Gibson's topmodellen. De gitaar kenmerkt zich door zijn volledig carved constructie, waarbij zowel het bovenblad als de achterkant met de hand zijn gesneden uit massief hout. De vijfdelige mahonie/esdoorn hals met zijn comfortabele V-profiel en palissander toets biedt een prettige bespeelbaarheid, terwijl het Frequensator staartstuk - een kenmerkend Epiphone-ontwerp - zorgt voor een verbeterde sustain en balans tussen de snaren.
Deze Triumph uit 1940 heeft door de jaren heen het nodige meegemaakt en is met zorg gerestaureerd. Naast een refret en neck reset heeft deze gitaar een nieuwe ebben brug, vintage correcte Grover stemmechanieken met butterbean knoppen, en een nieuwe slagplaat. Op de schouder aan de baszijde is vanuit de halsverbinding een crack gerepareerd, net als op het bovenblad bij de slagplaat. Op de achterzijde van de klankkast is een lakbeschadiging gerepareerd., en de originele sunburst finish is opgefrist met een dunne laag nitrocellulose lak. Later is ook de binding aan de linkerzijde van de headstock vervangen en een nieuwe benen topkam geplaatst.
De gitaar is uitgerust met een Kent Armstrong Handmade 2D Ultra slim humbucking pickup, een subtiele moderne toevoeging die de vintage esthetiek respecteert maar wel de mogelijkheid biedt om versterkt te spelen. Met volume- en toonregelaars en een endpin jack is deze Triumph klaar voor zowel akoestisch als elektrisch gebruik. Het lichte gewicht van 2,61 kg maakt langdurig spelen tot een genot.

The Triumph was introduced in the 1930s as part of Epiphone's ambitious archtop line, competing with Gibson's top models. The guitar is characterized by its fully carved construction, with both the top and back hand-carved from solid wood. The five-piece mahogany/maple neck with its comfortable V-profile and rosewood fingerboard offers pleasant playability, while the Frequensator tailpiece—a signature Epiphone design—ensures improved sustain and string balance.
This 1940 Triumph has seen its fair share of wear and tear over the years and has been meticulously restored. In addition to a refret and neck reset, this guitar features a new ebony bridge, vintage-correct Grover tuners with butterbean knobs, and a new pickguard. A crack on the bass-side shoulder has been repaired from the neck joint, as has a crack on the top near the pickguard. A lacquer chip on the back of the body was repaired, and the original sunburst finish was refreshed with a thin layer of nitrocellulose lacquer. Later, the binding on the left side of the headstock was replaced, and a new bone nut was installed.
The guitar is equipped with a Kent Armstrong Handmade 2D Ultra Slim humbucking pickup, a subtle modern addition that respects the vintage aesthetic while still offering the option of amplified playing. With volume and tone controls and an endpin jack, this Triumph is ready for both acoustic and electric use. Its light weight of 2.61 kg makes long-term playing a pleasure.

Die Triumph wurde in den 1930er-Jahren als Teil von Epiphones ambitionierter Archtop-Linie eingeführt und konkurrierte mit Gibsons Topmodellen. Charakteristisch für diese Gitarre ist ihre vollständig geschnitzte Konstruktion, bei der sowohl Decke als auch Boden aus massivem Holz handgeschnitzt sind. Der fünfteilige Mahagoni/Ahorn-Hals mit seinem komfortablen V-Profil und dem Palisandergriffbrett bietet angenehme Bespielbarkeit, während das Frequensator-Saitenhalter – ein typisches Epiphone-Design – für verbessertes Sustain und eine ausgewogene Saitenlage sorgt.
Diese Triumph von 1940 hat im Laufe der Jahre einige Gebrauchsspuren gezeigt und wurde sorgfältig restauriert. Neben einer Neubundierung und Halswinkelkorrektur verfügt diese Gitarre über einen neuen Ebenholzsteg, originalgetreue Grover-Mechaniken mit Butterbean-Knöpfen und ein neues Schlagbrett. Ein Riss an der Schulter der Bassseite wurde vom Halsansatz aus repariert, ebenso wie ein Riss in der Decke in der Nähe des Schlagbretts. Ein Lackabplatzer auf der Rückseite des Korpus wurde ausgebessert, und das originale Sunburst-Finish wurde mit einer dünnen Schicht Nitrozelluloselack aufgefrischt. Später wurde das Binding an der linken Seite der Kopfplatte erneuert und ein neuer Knochensattel eingesetzt.
Die Gitarre ist mit einem handgefertigten Kent Armstrong 2D Ultra Slim Humbucker ausgestattet – eine dezente, moderne Ergänzung, die die Vintage-Ästhetik respektiert und gleichzeitig verstärktes Spielen ermöglicht. Mit Lautstärke- und Klangreglern sowie einer Endpin-Buchse ist diese Triumph sowohl für akustisches als auch für elektrisches Spielen bestens geeignet. Ihr geringes Gewicht von 2,61 kg macht langes Spielen zum Vergnügen.
