Deze zeer speciale gitaar uit de historische serie is een liefdevolle recreatie van de beruchte D28 van Tony Rice, een gitaar die voorheen eigendom was van Clarence White, vandaar de naam - The White Rice! Met zijn direct herkenbare vergrote klankgat en overhangende toets, wordt de originele gitaar algemeen aanvaard als een van de best klinkende D28's die er bestaat. Atkin wilde een compromisloze Dreadnought bouwen die deze uitzonderlijke gitaar en zijn legendarische eigenaren zou eren.
Terwijl het 'normale' Sitka sparren bovenblad en Oost-Indisch palissander dreadnought veel kracht, sustain en projectie bevat, is deze gitaar iets anders. Mede dankzij het extra grote klankgat, dat meer lucht in en uit de gitaar laat, beschikt The White Rice over een ongelooflijke kracht - in de woorden van Alister: "hij klinkt als een kanon!", met een openheid en resonantie die uniek is.
Deze Atkin is perfect uitgerust tot in elk detail, van de 43,5 mm brede kam tot de gedetailleerde verouderde afwerking, en is niet alleen het ultieme eerbetoon aan Clarence White en Tony Rice, maar misschien wel de ultieme Dreadnought! De gitaar is gebouwd in 2020, en verkeert in excellente conditie. Er zijn her en der speelsporen zichtbaar, maar deze zijn dankzij de door Atkin al verouderde finish alleen maar een aanvulling op het karakter van de gitaar.
Meer opvallende sporen zijn de afdrukken van een string winder op de zijkant van de headstock, en we hebben de brug opnieuw vastgelijmd. Desalniettemin een instrument dat ondanks zijn jonge leeftijd al een echte vintage ziel heeft!

With its instantly recognizable enlarged soundhole and overhanging fingerboard, the original guitar is widely accepted as one of the best-sounding D28s in existence. Atkin wanted to build an uncompromising Dreadnought that would honor this exceptional guitar and its legendary owners.
While the 'normal' Sitka spruce top and East Indian rosewood dreadnought offer plenty of power, sustain, and projection, this guitar is something else. Thanks in part to the extra-large soundhole, which lets more air in and out of the guitar, The White Rice possesses incredible power—in Alister's words: "it sounds like a cannon!"—with an openness and resonance that is unique.
This Atkin is perfectly equipped down to every detail, from the 43.5 mm wide nut to the detailed aged finish, and is not only the ultimate tribute to Clarence White and Tony Rice, but perhaps the ultimate Dreadnought! The guitar was built in 2020 and is in excellent condition. There are signs of wear visible here and there, but thanks to the finish already aged by Atkin, these only add to the character of the guitar.
More noticeable marks are the imprints of a string winder on the side of the headstock, and we have re-glued the bridge. Nevertheless, an instrument that already possesses a true vintage soul despite its young age!

Diese ganz besondere Gitarre aus der historischen Serie ist eine liebevolle Nachbildung von Tony Rices legendärer D-28, die einst Clarence White gehörte – daher der Name „The White Rice“! Mit ihrem sofort erkennbaren, vergrößerten Schallloch und dem überhängenden Griffbrett gilt das Original als eine der bestklingenden D-28 überhaupt. Atkin wollte eine kompromisslose Dreadnought bauen, die dieser außergewöhnlichen Gitarre und ihren legendären Besitzern Ehre macht.
Während die „normale“ Sitka-Fichtendecke und der Korpus aus ostindischem Palisanderholz der Dreadnought-Serie viel Power, Sustain und Projektion bieten, ist diese Gitarre etwas ganz Besonderes. Dank des extra großen Schalllochs, das mehr Luft in die Gitarre hinein- und herauslässt, besitzt „The White Rice“ eine unglaubliche Kraft – in Alisters Worten: „Sie klingt wie eine Kanone!“ – mit einer einzigartigen Offenheit und Resonanz.
Diese Atkin ist bis ins kleinste Detail perfekt ausgestattet, vom 43,5 mm breiten Sattel bis zum aufwendig gealterten Finish. Sie ist nicht nur eine Hommage an Clarence White und Tony Rice, sondern vielleicht die ultimative Dreadnought! Die Gitarre wurde 2020 gebaut und befindet sich in exzellentem Zustand. Hier und da sind Gebrauchsspuren sichtbar, die dank des bereits von Atkin gealterten Finishs aber nur den Charakter der Gitarre unterstreichen.
Auffälliger sind die Abdrücke eines Saitenaufwicklers an der Seite der Kopfplatte, und wir haben den Steg neu verleimt. Trotzdem: Ein Instrument, das trotz seines jungen Alters bereits eine echte Vintage-Seele besitzt!
