De Super Chet werd in 1972 geïntroduceerd als Gretsch' antwoord op de vraag naar een meer luxueuze versie van hun populaire Country Gentleman. Het model werd vernoemd naar Chet Atkins en vertegenwoordigde het topje van Gretsch' hollowbody-lijn in die periode. In 1976, the year this guitar was built, Gretsch was in a transitional phase under Baldwin ownership, but the quality and craftsmanship remained at a high level.

Striking is the Bigsby vibrato that is mounted instead of the standard decorated tailpiece, which gives the guitar extra expressive possibilities. The potentiometers have been replaced over the years, which is normal for guitars of this age and ensures that all electronics function optimally.
The guitar comes with a TFOA passport in a hardshell case.
