De 16-inch archtops van Collings onderscheiden zich doordat ze zijn ontworpen om als akoestische gitaren bespeeld te worden, in tegenstelling tot veel moderne archtops die primair voor versterkt spel bedoeld zijn. Het ontwerp is geïnspireerd op de vroegste Amerikaanse f-hole archtops uit de jaren '20, en deze benadering resulteert in een warme en gebalanceerde klank met een helderheid, projectie en directe respons die veel flattop-spelers doet overwegen om de overstap te maken naar een archtop.
De gitaar is vervaardigd uit hoogwaardig carved esdoorn voor de body, met een carved sparren bovenblad dat zorgt voor de karakteristieke archtop-toon. De gekozen houtsoorten leveren een prachtig evenwicht tussen warmte en articulatie, met voldoende sustain voor zowel akkoordwerk als single-note spel. Het gevlamde esdoorn van de hals heeft een comfortabel C-profiel met een compound radius ebben toets, wat resulteert in uitstekende bespeelbaarheid over de hele hals. The design is inspired by the earliest American f-hole archtops of the 1920s, and this approach results in a warm and balanced tone with the clarity, projection, and direct response that many flattop players consider switching to an archtop.
The guitar is crafted from high-quality carved maple for the body, with a carved spruce top that produces the characteristic archtop tone.
