Gibson LG2 Banner Sunburst 1944

De LG2 maakte deel uit van dezelfde serie als de LG1 en LG3, maar dit was het enige model waarvan de productie doorging tijdens WOII. Wegens voorraadtekorten kwam het in die jaren regelmatig voor dat Gibson mahonie gebruikte voor het bovenblad in plaats van sparren. Dat is ook het geval bij deze 'hogtop' uit 1944.

Hij is geliefd om zijn scalloped X-braced bovenblad en zeer verzamelwaardig met het Banner logo op de kop. Naast het Banner-logo verwijst het FON nummer '2937' op het hielblok naar het jaar 1944. Dankzij de volledig mahonie constructie onderscheidt de klank zich met dat beetje extra punch. En onderschat de kracht van deze gitaar zeker niet. Hij lijkt klein en compact, maar produceert een verrassend luide klank. Sla een paar akkoorden aan, en hij blaast je bijna omver! Bij een zachtere aanraking valt met name de helderheid van de hoge tonen op.

Het is bijna onwaarschijnlijk om je te beseffen dat deze Gibson al 80 jaar onder ons is, want de gitaar ziet er werkelijk waar fantastisch uit! De gitaar heeft ergens in zijn historie een overspray ondergaan, waarvan de sporen ook door het klankgat in de klankkast te zien zijn. De lak heeft door de jaren heen vervolgens een prachtig subtiel craquelé-patroon verzameld dat bijdraagt aan de vintage uitstraling van de gitaar.

Verder heeft de gitaar een neck reset en een refret ondergaan, en tevens is de brug lager gemaakt. Ook is er ooit een pickup in de gitaar geïnstalleerd, maar deze is niet meer aanwezig. De gitaar wordt nog wel gesierd door de originele slagplaat en stemmechanieken, en is een waar genot om te bespelen!

The LG2 was part of the same series as the LG1 and LG3, but this was the only model whose production continued during WWII. Due to stock shortages, it often happened in those years that Gibson used mahogany for the top instead of spruce. That is also the case with this 'hogtop' from 1944.

It is popular for its scalloped X-braced top and very collectible with the Banner logo on the headstock. In addition to the Banner logo, the FON number '2937' on the heel block refers to the year 1944. Thanks to the all-mahogany construction, the sound stands out with that little bit of extra punch. And certainly don't underestimate the power of this guitar. It seems small and compact, but produces a surprisingly loud sound. Strike a few chords and it will almost blow you away! With a softer touch, the clarity of the treble is particularly noticeable.

It's almost unbelievable to realize that this Gibson has been with us for 80 years, because the guitar really looks fantastic! The guitar has undergone an overspray at some point in its history, traces of which can also be seen through the sound hole in the body. Over the years, the lacquer has then collected a beautiful subtle weather checking pattern that contributes to the guitar's vintage appearance.

Furthermore, the guitar has undergone a neck reset and a refret, and the bridge has also been made lower. A pickup was also installed in the guitar at some point, but it is no longer present. The guitar is still adorned with the original pickguard and tuners, and is a real pleasure to play!

Das LG2 war Teil derselben Serie wie das LG1 und das LG3, aber dies war das einzige Modell, dessen Produktion während des Zweiten Weltkriegs fortgesetzt wurde. Es ist beliebt für seine gewellte, X-verstrebte Decke und mit dem Banner-Logo auf der Kopfplatte ein echtes Sammlerstück. Neben dem Banner-Logo weist die FON-Nummer „2937“ auf dem Fersenblock auf das Jahr 1944 hin. Dank der Vollmahagoni-Konstruktion sticht der Sound mit dem gewissen Extra an Punch hervor. Und unterschätzen Sie auf keinen Fall die Kraft dieser Gitarre. Es wirkt klein und kompakt, erzeugt aber einen überraschend lauten Klang. Schlagen Sie ein paar Akkorde an und es wird Sie fast umhauen! Bei einem weicheren Anschlag fällt die Klarheit der Höhen besonders deutlich auf.

Es ist fast unglaublich, dass diese Gibson schon seit 80 Jahren bei uns ist, denn die Gitarre sieht wirklich fantastisch aus! Die Gitarre wurde irgendwann in ihrer Geschichte einem Overspray ausgesetzt, dessen Spuren auch durch das Schallloch im Korpus sichtbar sind. Im Laufe der Jahre hat der Lack dann ein wunderschönes, dezentes Wettermuster erhalten, das zum Vintage-Aussehen der Gitarre beiträgt.

Darüber hinaus wurde die Gitarre einem Hals-Reset und einem Refret unterzogen und auch der Steg wurde tiefer gelegt. Irgendwann wurde auch ein Tonabnehmer in die Gitarre eingebaut, der aber nicht mehr vorhanden ist. Die Gitarre ist immer noch mit dem originalen Schlagbrett und den originalen Mechaniken versehen und es macht wirklich Spaß, sie zu spielen!
