Fender Coronado II 'Some Like it Hot' Candy Apple Red 1967

The Coronado Series was Fender's first attempt to enter the hollowbody market dominated by Gibson, Gretsch, and other builders. The Coronado was available in a few different configurations; the Coronado II featured two single-coil pickups built by DeArmond.

However, this 1967 Coronado II has one very eye-catching feature that sets it apart. The fingerboard is inlaid with the text 'Some Like It Hot', a reference to the 1959 film of the same name. This film by director Billy Wilder was shot at the Hotel Del Coronado in California and starred Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe in the lead roles.

In addition to the special inlay, this Coronado also has more familiar specifications such as the binding with typical purfling, the bound f-holes and pickups from DeArmond. The guitar has a tune-o-matic bridge that is combined with a Bigsby. The guitar no longer has a pickguard, and the bridge pickup tone control knob is missing.

The guitar also has playwear on the body and neck, on which the fingerboard has been replaced and is fitted with a custom inlay. In addition, a refinish has been carried out. The guitar comes with TFOA passport in a hardshell case.
