We've been huge fans of Jan Šťovíček's custom hand-made acoustic guitars ever since we openend our shop doors early '00s. This P42F is one of the more fancy instruments we've ordered from him.

De geschiedenis van BSG begon in 1990, toen Jan Šťovíček zijn allereerste akoestische gitaar bouwde. Zijn grootste hobby was en is gitaarspelen en dit was ook de belangrijkste reden waarom Jan begon met het maken van gitaren. Door de hoge kwaliteit van BSG gitaren hebben ze een uitstekende reputatie verworven bij spelers over de hele wereld, waardoor ze een vaste plaats hebben veroverd in studio's, concertzalen, huizen en prestigieuze gitaarwinkels over de hele wereld.
We spraken Jan vorig jaar op de NAMM Show (raar dat er een show in Californië nodig is voor twee Europeanen om elkaar weer te zien...!) en hij vertelde ons over het prachtige toonhout dat hij aan het aanschaffen was. Daaronder waren enkele prachtige sets Myrtle die we niet vaak zien, en een prachtige set Macassar Ebony die we kennen en waar we dol op zijn.
We besloten te kiezen voor een klein salonmodel in Martin 42-stijl. Ironisch genoeg is Jan's notatie voor Macassar Ebben achter- en zijkanten ook 42, wat betekent dat het getal in de titel alles te maken heeft met het toonhout en niets met de hoeveelheid Abalone die is gebruikt! Het Ebbenhout is gecombineerd met een prachtige set Adirondack Spruce voor het bovenblad. Het eerder genoemde Myrtle is gebruikt voor de brug, toets, bindingen en headstock overlay. Dit vormt een geweldige match met de Macassar Ebony achterplaat voor de kop en de Snakewood knoppen op de stemknoppen.
Mensen die een BSG kennen of hebben gehad, weten wat ze te wachten staat. Voor degenen die nog in het duister tasten, willen we je graag introduceren in de wereld van BSG door middel van deze gitaar. Het is een prachtig, custom, handgemaakt instrument dat de liefde van Jan voor goed hout belichaamt. Hij klinkt lief, warm, direct en niet te luid. Hij heeft een mooie, subtiele low-end en prachtige hoge tonen die rinkelen met een natuurlijke nagalm. Een prachtig instrument, niet alleen gebouwd vanuit een Europees hart, maar ook gebouwd in het hart van Europa.
The history of BSG began in 1990, when Jan Šťovíček built his very first acoustic guitar. His main hobby was and still is, playing guitar and this was also the main reason why Jan started making guitars. Due to the high quality of BSG guitars, they have acquired an excellent reputation by players around the world, thus gaining a permanent position in studios, concert halls, homes and prestigious guitar stores around the world.
We spoke to Jan last year at the NAMM Show (weird how it takes a show in California for two Europeans to meet up again...!) and he told us about the stunning tonewoods he was busy acquiring. Amongst those were some beautiful sets of Myrtle which we don't see to often, and a stunning set of Macassar Ebony which we know and love.
We decided to go with a rather decked-out, almost Martin 42-style, small parlour model. Ironically, Jan's notation for Macassar Ebony back & sides is also 42, meaning the number in the title has everything to do with the tonewood, and nothing with the amount of Abalone used! The Ebony is paired with a stunning set of Adirondack Spruce for the top. The aforementioned Myrtle was used for the bridge, fingerboard, bindings and headstock overlay. This forms a great match with the Macassar Ebony backplate for the headstock and the Snakewood buttons on the tuners.
People who know or have owned a BSG know what they're in for. For those of you still in the dark, we'd love to introduce you to the world of BSG through this guitar. It's a beautiful, custom, hand-made instrument that embodies the love for good wood that Jan has. It sounds sweet, warm, direct and not too loud. It has a nice, subtle low-end and beautiful high notes that ring with a natural reverb. A gorgeous instrument not only built from a European heart, but built in the heart of Europe as well.
Die Geschichte von BSG begann 1990, als Jan Šťovíček seine allererste akustische Gitarre baute. Sein größtes Hobby war und ist das Gitarrenspiel und das war auch der Hauptgrund, warum Jan mit dem Gitarrenbau begann. Dank der hohen Qualität der BSG-Gitarren haben sie bei Spielern auf der ganzen Welt einen ausgezeichneten Ruf erlangt und einen festen Platz in Studios, Konzertsälen, Wohnungen und renommierten Gitarrengeschäften auf der ganzen Welt.
Wir sprachen mit Jan letztes Jahr auf der NAMM Show (seltsam, dass es eine Messe in Kalifornien braucht, damit sich zwei Europäer wiedersehen...!) und er erzählte uns von den atemberaubenden Tonhölzern, die er gerade erwarb. Darunter waren einige wunderschöne Sets aus Myrtle, die wir nicht so oft sehen, und ein atemberaubendes Set aus Macassar-Ebenholz, das wir kennen und lieben.
Wir haben uns für ein kleines Salonmodell entschieden, das fast wie eine Martin 42 aussieht und ziemlich ausstaffiert ist. Ironischerweise ist Jans Notation für Boden und Zargen aus Makassar-Ebenholz auch 42, was bedeutet, dass die Zahl im Titel alles mit dem Tonholz zu tun hat und nichts mit der Menge des verwendeten Abalone! Das Ebenholz wird mit einem atemberaubenden Satz Adirondack Fichte für die Decke gepaart. Die bereits erwähnte Myrte wurde für den Steg, das Griffbrett, die Bindings und die Kopfplattenauflage verwendet. Dies passt hervorragend zu der Makassar-Ebenholzplatte für die Kopfplatte und den Snakewood-Knöpfen an den Mechaniken.
Wer eine BSG kennt oder besessen hat, weiß, worauf er sich einlässt. Für diejenigen, die noch im Dunkeln tappen, würden wir gerne die Welt der BSG durch diese Gitarre vorstellen. Es ist ein wunderschönes, handgefertigtes Instrument, das die Liebe von Jan zu gutem Holz verkörpert. Sie klingt süß, warm, direkt und nicht zu laut. Sie hat ein schönes, subtiles Low-End und schöne hohe Töne, die mit einem natürlichen Reverb klingen. Ein wunderschönes Instrument, das nicht nur mit einem europäischen Herzen gebaut wurde, sondern auch im Herzen Europas.
