Toen Bill Collings de briljante jonge jazzmuzikant voor het eerst ontmoette in 2014, begonnen de twee aan een reeks diepgaande gesprekken over hun respectievelijke ambachten. Lage's diepgaande inzichten als gitarist speelden een sleutelrol in de creatie van Collings' T (Traditional) Series gitaren. Hoewel de OM1A JL dezelfde basiskenmerken heeft als de T-Serie, is hij op een aantal belangrijke punten uniek. Hij heeft een Adirondack sparren bovenblad en een aangepast halsprofiel gemodelleerd naar Lage's geliefde Martin 00018 uit 1939, die jarenlang zijn belangrijkste akoestische instrument tijdens het touren was. Lage's profound insights as a guitarist played a key role in the creation of Collings’ T (Traditional) Series guitars. Through this rare collaboration, which continued right up until Bill Collings' recent passing in July, 2017, the signature OM1 JL has emerged as a highly specialized version of the T-Series, designed with the characteristics in mind that Lage seeks in an instrument.
Though the OM1A JL shares the same foundational specs of the T-Series, it is unique in some key ways. It features an Adirondack spruce top and a custom neck profile modeled after Lage’s cherished 1939 Martin 00018, which was for years his main touring acoustic. In contrast to the high-gloss finish of the T-Series, the OM1 JL is finished with an unassuming custom satin nitrocellulose lacquer that strikes an ideal balance of thin application and vintage aesthetic. This new finish offering not only feels and looks right to Lage, he finds it has the same inherent openness of tone that is present in the best pre-war instruments.
Lage’s signature model also incorporates a script peghead logo not seen on a new Collings instrument in decades. This is the inlay that Bill Colllings hand-cut some 30 years ago when he started out in a tiny shop in Austin, Texas.

Im Gegensatz zum Hochglanz-Finish der T-Serie ist die OM1 JL mit einem unauffälligen, satinierten Nitrozelluloselack lackiert, der eine ideale Balance zwischen dünnem Auftrag und Vintage-Ästhetik bietet. Diese neue Lackierung fühlt sich nicht nur gut an und sieht gut aus, sie hat auch die gleiche Offenheit des Klangs wie die besten Vorkriegsinstrumente, findet Lage.
Lages Signature-Modell verfügt auch über ein Wirbelkopf-Logo, das seit Jahrzehnten nicht mehr auf einem neuen Collings-Instrument zu sehen war. Es handelt sich um die Einlage, die Bill Collings vor etwa 30 Jahren von Hand schnitt, als er in einem kleinen Laden in Austin, Texas, anfing.
