Van Freddie King tot Jeff Beck, vele grote gitaristen zijn aangetrokken tot het unieke karakter van het "wraparound" staartstuk van een 1954 Les Paul. Met de vette ronk en dominante klank die alleen diep in de wikkelingen van een paar P90 pickups te vinden zijn, komt deze reissue zo dicht mogelijk bij een van die zeldzame originelen als maar kan, en dat voor een fractie van de prijs.
Nee, in 1954 had de Les Paul geen Honeyburst finish. Deze Custom Shop uit 2001 wel! Een mooie subtiele burst die de nerf, en zelfs een klein beetje 'vlam', van het esdoornhout laat zien.
Het dikke "C" profiel voelt comfortabel aan om te spelen. En die 'wraparound', wat was daar ook alweer mee? Zoals elke Les Paul liefhebber je zal vertellen: het minimaliseren van de snaarcontactpunten zal meer energie overbrengen naar de body, wat op zijn beurt de klank verbetert, evenals het verbeteren van het snaarbuig-vermogen.
Na ruim 20 jaar ziet deze R4 er nog heel schoon uit. Hij heeft uiteraard wel wat speelsporen en een aantal dings opgelopen. Daarnaast heeft de rand van de achterkant van de body een paar versleten lakplekken. Hij verkeert in excellente conditie en wordt geleverd in een koffer met echtheidscertificaat.

No, in 1954 the Les Paul did not have a Honeyburst finish. This 2001 Custom Shop does! A nice subtle burst that shows the grain, and even a little bit of "flame", of the maple wood.
The thick "C" profile feels comfortable to play. And that 'wraparound', what was up with that again? As any Les Paul enthusiast will tell you: minimising the string contact points will transfer more energy to the body, which in turn improves tone, as well as improving string bending ability.
After more than 20 years, this R4 still looks very clean. It has of course gotten some playwear and dings. In addition, the edge of the back of the body has a few worn lacquer spots. It is in excellent condition and comes in a hardshell case with certificate of authenticity.
Von Freddie King bis Jeff Beck haben sich viele große Gitarristen von dem einzigartigen Charakter des "Wraparound"-Saitenhalters einer Les Paul von 1954 angezogen gefühlt. Mit dem fetten und dominanten Ton, den man nur tief in den Wicklungen eines P90-Pickups findet, kommt diese Neuauflage einem dieser seltenen Originale so nahe wie nur möglich, und das zu einem Bruchteil des Preises.
Nein, 1954 gab es keine Honeyburst-Lackierung für die Les Paul. Diese 2001 Custom Shop hat sie! Ein schöner subtiler Ausbruch, der die Maserung und sogar ein wenig "Flamme" des Ahornholzes zeigt.
Das dicke "C"-Profil ist angenehm zu spielen. Und dieser "Wraparound", was war das noch mal? Jeder Les Paul-Liebhaber wird Ihnen sagen, dass durch die Minimierung der Saitenkontaktpunkte mehr Energie auf den Korpus übertragen wird, was wiederum den Ton verbessert und die Biegefähigkeit der Saiten erhöht.
Nach mehr als 20 Jahren sieht diese R4 immer noch sehr sauber aus. Natürlich hat sie einige Spielspuren und Dellen. Außerdem hat die Kante der Rückseite des Korpus ein paar abgenutzte Lackstellen. Sie ist in ausgezeichnetem Zustand und wird in einem Hartschalenkoffer mit Echtheitszertifikat geliefert.
