Gibson Dove 1968
De Gibson Dove verscheen in 1962 als Gibson's tweede square-shoulder dreadnought naast de Hummingbird. Net als het topmodel onderscheidt de Dove zich door unieke visuele details die het model tot een van Gibson's meest iconische akoestische gitaren maken. Wat de Dove werkelijk onderscheidt van de Hummingbird is zijn langere mensuur en het gebruik van esdoorn in plaats van mahonie voor de zij- en achterkant. Deze Dove is uitgerust met esdoorn dat samen met het Sitka sparren bovenblad zorgt voor een heldere, krachtige klank met uitstekende projectie.
De combinatie van de dreadnought body met deze samenstelling van houtsoorten maakt deze gitaar perfect voor zowel krachtig ritmisch spel als gedetailleerde fingerstyle passages. Het vakmanschap van Gibson is duidelijk zichtbaar in elk detail van deze gitaar, van de crème-kleurige binding en de rijkelijk gedecoreerde tortoise-slagplaat tot de prachtige parelmoeren split parallellogram inlays op de palissander toets. De relatief slanke mahonie hals met zijn comfortabele C-profiel nodigt je zonder meer uit tot urenlang spelen!
Deze Dove is afkomstig uit 1968, en is te herkennen aan zijn geschroefde slagplaat die alleen in dat jaar voorkwam. De gitaar heeft een plastic brugzadel dat hoogstwaarschijnlijk een vervanger was een palissander exemplaar dat oorspronkelijk op de gitaar zat. Verder heeft deze Dove een reparatie aan de brugplaat gehad, en hierdoor zijn de snaren weer stevig verankerd onder het bovenblad. Een refret zorgt er tenslotte voor dat je weer jaren vooruit kunt met deze vintage schoonheid!
Over de vintage status van deze gitaar hoeft geen twijfel te bestaan, want de finish vertoont de craquelé die je alleen op oude Gibsons vindt; stijlvol en doorleefd!

The Gibson Dove was released in 1962 as Gibson's second square-shoulder dreadnought alongside the Hummingbird. Like the flagship model, the Dove features unique visual details that make it one of Gibson's most iconic acoustic guitars. What really sets the Dove apart from the Hummingbird is its longer scale and the use of maple instead of mahogany for the back and sides. This Dove is equipped with maple, which together with the Sitka spruce top provides a bright, powerful tone with excellent projection.
The combination of the dreadnought body with this composition of woods makes this guitar perfect for both powerful rhythm playing and detailed fingerstyle passages. Gibson's craftsmanship is clearly visible in every detail of this guitar, from the cream-colored binding and the richly decorated tortoise pickguard to the beautiful mother-of-pearl split parallelogram inlays on the rosewood fingerboard. The relatively slim mahogany neck with its comfortable C-profile invites you to play for hours!
This Dove is from 1968, and can be recognized by its bolt-on pickguard that only existed in that year. The guitar has a plastic bridge saddle that was most likely a replacement for a rosewood one that was originally on the guitar. Furthermore, this Dove has had a repair to the bridge plate, and as a result the strings are firmly anchored under the top again. Finally, a refret ensures that you can continue to enjoy this vintage beauty for years to come!
There is no doubt about the vintage status of this guitar, because the finish shows the crackle that you only find on old Gibsons; stylish and lived-in!
