Georde Lowden begon in 1974 met het bouwen van gitaren in zijn allereerste werkplaats in Bangor, Noord Ierland. Vanaf 1980 verhuisde de productie echter voor enkele jaren naar Japan, waar Sadao Yairi de leiding had over de werkplaats in Nagoya. Er werden jaarlijks zo'n 1000 gitaren gebouwd onder licentie van George Lowden, en het Japanse avontuur van Lowden duurde zo'n vijf jaar. Dit was een grote stap in de productie van Lowden, want tot dan toe werden er zo'n 143 gitaren gebouwd in de eerste periode in Noord-Ierland.
Deze Lowden S22C is afkomstig uit 1981 en is opgebouwd uit een mahonie klankkast met ceder bovenblad. Opvallend is de grote bodyvorm die tegenwoordig het O-model is, beduidend anders dan de huidige S die tegenwoordig een van de kleinste Lowden-modellen is. De body is voorzien van een florentine cutaway die de hogere frets eenvoudig toegankelijk maakt. De vijfdelige hals is gemaakt van esdoorn en mahonie, en beschikt over een C-profiel dat licht naar een soft-V-profiel.
Het is duidelijk dat er in 43 jaar prima voor deze Lowden is gezorgd. De gitaar heeft speelsporen op de body en hals, waaronder enkele dings op het bovenblad en de zijkant van de body. Tevens zijn er op het bovenblad drie cracks gerepareerd zodat de gitaar weer stabiel is. De gitaar is ook uitgerust met een pickup zodat de gitaar ook versterkt uit de voeten kan.
Met een warme en volle sound boordevol sustain is deze Lowden een prachtig klinkende gitaar, zoals Tom in de demo hieronder laat horen!

Georde Lowden started building guitars in 1974 in his very first workshop in Bangor, Northern Ireland. However, from 1980 onwards, production moved to Japan for a few years, where Sadao Yairi was in charge of the workshop in Nagoya. About 1,000 guitars were built annually under license from George Lowden, and Lowden's Japanese adventure lasted about five years. This was a major step in Lowden's production, as up to that point some 143 guitars had been built in the initial period in Northern Ireland.
This Lowden S22C is from 1981 and consists of a mahogany back and sides with a cedar top. What is striking is the large body shape that is now the O model, significantly different from the current S which is one of the smallest Lowden models today. The body features a florentine cutaway that makes the higher frets easily accessible. The five-piece neck is made of maple and mahogany, and has a C-profile that shifts slightly to a soft-V profile.
It is clear that this Lowden has been well cared for over 43 years. The guitar has playwear on the body and neck, including some dings on the top and the side of the body. Three cracks have also been repaired on the top so that the guitar is stable again. The guitar is also equipped with a pickup so that the guitar can also be played amplified.

Auffällig ist die große Karosserieform des heutigen O-Modells, die sich deutlich vom aktuellen S unterscheidet, der heute eines der kleinsten Lowden-Modelle ist. Der Korpus verfügt über einen Florentiner Cutaway, der die höheren Bünde leicht zugänglich macht. Der fünfteilige Hals besteht aus Ahorn und Mahagoni und hat ein C-Profil, das leicht in ein weiches V-Profil übergeht.
Es ist klar, dass dieser Lowden seit über 43 Jahren gut gepflegt wird. Die Gitarre hat Spielspuren am Korpus und am Hals, darunter einige Beulen an der Decke und an der Seite des Korpus. Auch an der Decke wurden drei Risse ausgebessert, sodass die Gitarre wieder stabil steht. Die Gitarre ist außerdem mit einem Tonabnehmer ausgestattet, so dass die Gitarre auch verstärkt gespielt werden kann.
Mit einem warmen und vollen Klang voller Sustain ist diese Lowden eine wunderschön klingende Gitarre, wie Tom in der Demo unten zeigt!
