It is almost unbelievable how old this Martin 1-26 is! The guitar was built in the period before 1867, and is even older than our iconic villa that was built in 1877!

Met zijn compacte en elegante uiterlijk is deze Martin Size 1 een gitaar die de tand des tijds uitstekend heeft doorstaan. De gitaar werd halverwege de 19e eeuw beschouwd als een standaardformaat gitaar en werd destijds besnaard met zogenaamde 'darmsnaren'. Om die reden wordt de gitaar nu besnaard met nylon snaren.
Deze Martin Size 1 is voorzien van de karakteristieke C.F. Martin New York-stempels op de achterkant van de kop, op het hielblok en op de middenstrip in de body. Deze stempels werden gebruikt op Martins eerste modellen en daarom kan de gitaar gedateerd worden in de periode vóór 1867. Na dit jaar werd het stempel C.F Martin & Co New York-stempel gebruikt, tot deze in 1898 ook weer werd vervangen.
De gitaar heeft achter- en zijkanten van Braziliaans palissander, en een fraai detail is dat deze zaagsporen goed te zien zijn op de achterzijde van de body. Daarbij heeft deze Martin een bovenblad van sparrenhout. De binding is afgewerkt met een rope patroon purfling en het klankgat is versierd met een Style 28-rozet. De cederhouten hals heeft een ebbenhouten toets en een Braziliaans palissander kopplaat op de slotted headstock.
Deze Size 1 verkeert in zeer goede staat gezien zijn leeftijd. Op het bovenblad en de body vinden we wat gerepareerde cracks, maar de gitaar is stabiel en makkelijk te bespelen. De gitaar is een prachtig stukje uit Martins rijke geschiedenis en een aanwinst voor elke gitaarcollectie!

With its compact and elegant appearance, this Martin Size 1 is a guitar that has stood the test of time excellently. The guitar was considered a standard size guitar in the mid-19th century and was strung with so-called 'gut strings' at the time. For this reason, the guitar is now strung with nylon strings.
This Martin Size 1 is provided with the characteristic C.F. Martin New York stamps on the back of the headstock, on the heel block and on the center strip in the body. These stamps were used on Martin's first models and therefore the guitar can be dated to the period before 1867. After that year, the C.F Martin & Co New York stamp was used, until this was replaced again in 1898.
The guitar has Brazilian rosewood back and sides, and a nice detail is that these saw marks are clearly visible on the back of the body. In addition, this Martin has a spruce top. The binding is finished with a rope pattern purfling and the sound hole is decorated with a Style 28 rosette. The cedar neck has an ebony fingerboard and a Brazilian rosewood headstock overlay.
This Size 1 is in very good condition considering its age. There are some repaired cracks on the top and body, but the guitar is stable and easy to play. The guitar is a beautiful piece of Martin's rich history and an asset to any guitar collection!

Mit ihrem kompakten und eleganten Erscheinungsbild ist diese Martin Größe 1 eine Gitarre, die sich hervorragend bewährt hat. Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts galt sie als Standardgröße und wurde damals mit sogenannten Darmsaiten bespannt. Aus diesem Grund ist sie heute mit Nylonsaiten bespannt.
Diese Martin Größe 1 trägt die charakteristischen Stempel von C.F. Martin New York auf der Rückseite der Kopfplatte, auf dem Korpussteg und auf dem Korpus-Mittelstreifen. Diese Stempel wurden auf Martins ersten Modellen verwendet, sodass die Gitarre auf die Zeit vor 1867 datiert werden kann. Nach diesem Jahr wurde der Stempel von C.F. Martin & Co. New York verwendet, bis dieser 1898 wieder ersetzt wurde.
Die Gitarre hat Boden und Zargen aus Rio-Palisander, und ein schönes Detail ist, dass diese Sägespuren auf der Korpusrückseite deutlich sichtbar sind. Außerdem hat diese Martin eine Fichtendecke. Das Binding ist mit einer Kordel-Einlage versehen, und das Schallloch ist mit einer Rosette im Style 28 verziert. Der Zedernhals hat ein Griffbrett aus Ebenholz und eine Kopfplattenauflage aus Rio-Palisander.
Diese Gitarre der Größe 1 befindet sich in einem für ihr Alter sehr guten Zustand. Es gibt einige reparierte Risse an Decke und Korpus, aber die Gitarre ist stabil und leicht zu spielen. Sie ist ein wunderschönes Stück Martins reicher Geschichte und eine Bereicherung für jede Gitarrensammlung!
