De D42 is sinds de introductie in 1986 een van de pronkstukken uit de line-up van Martin, en bevindt zich net achter de D45 in de rij van meest gedecoreerde gitaren. Voor deze D42 heeft Martin nog eens extra uitgepakt met een klankkast van Cambodjaans palissander, en spectaculaire houtsoort die qua dichtheid en klank Braziliaans palissander benadert. Van deze serie zijn slechts 19 exemplaren gemaakt, en deze gitaar is nummer 8 uit deze zeer gelimiteerde oplage.
In alles laat deze D42 zien een échte dreadnought te zijn, en de klank is niet anders dan te omschrijven dan krachtig, diep, helder en boordevol sustain. De complexiteit van het Cambodjaans palissander (Dalbergia bariensis) wordt hierbij versterk door het Adirondack sparren bovenblad dat de gitaar veel volume geeft met prachtige boventonen. De gitaar is verder rijkelijk voorzien van abalone versieringen op de body, terwijl de mahonie hals wordt gesierd door parelmoer inleg en een kopplaat van wederom Cambodjaans palissander.
Deze Martin D42 werd gebouwd in 2007 en verkeert in excellente conditie. De gitaar heeft lichte speelsporen op het bovenblad en de slagplaat, met daarbij ook enkele kleine dings. Ook op de achterzijde van de hals zijn lichte speelsporen en enkele dings te vinden, maar de gitaar is verder zeer schoon. Tevens is er in de gitaar een K&K Pure Mini-pickup geïnstalleerd, net als een strap button op de hiel.
De gitaar wordt met TFOA paspoort geleverd in een koffer van TKL.

The D42 has been one of the showpieces of Martin's lineup since its introduction in 1986, and sits just behind the D45 in the list of most decorated guitars. For this D42, Martin has gone the extra mile with a back and forth made of Cambodian rosewood, a spectacular wood that approximates Brazilian rosewood in density and sound. Only 19 copies of this series were made, and this guitar is number 8 from this very limited edition.
In everything, this D42 shows to be a real dreadnought, and the sound can only be described as powerful, deep, clear and packed with sustain. The complexity of the Cambodian rosewood (Dalbergia bariensis) is enhanced by the Adirondack spruce top that gives the guitar a lot of volume with beautiful overtones. The guitar is also richly equipped with abalone decorations on the body, while the mahogany neck is decorated with mother-of-pearl inlays and a headstock of Cambodian rosewood.
This Martin D42 was built in 2007 and is in excellent condition. The guitar has light playwear on the top and pickguard, as well as some small dings. There is also light playwear and a few dings on the back of the neck, but the guitar is otherwise very clean. A K&K Pure Mini pickup has also been installed in the guitar, as well as a strap button on the heel.
The guitar comes with TFOA passport in a TKL hardshell case.

Die D42 ist seit ihrer Einführung im Jahr 1986 eines der Prunkstücke von Martins Produktpalette und steht in der Liste der am meisten ausgezeichneten Gitarren direkt hinter der D45. Für diesen D42 hat Martin mit einem Hin- und Her aus kambodschanischem Palisander, einem spektakulären Holz, das in Dichte und Klang dem brasilianischen Palisander nahekommt, noch einen Schritt weiter gegangen. Von dieser Serie wurden nur 19 Exemplare hergestellt, und diese Gitarre ist die Nummer 8 dieser sehr limitierten Auflage.
In allem erweist sich dieser D42 als echter Dreadnought, und der Klang kann nur als kraftvoll, tief, klar und voller Sustain beschrieben werden. Die Komplexität des kambodschanischen Palisanders (Dalbergia bariensis) wird durch die Adirondack-Fichtendecke verstärkt, die der Gitarre viel Volumen mit schönen Obertönen verleiht. Die Gitarre ist außerdem reich mit Abalone-Verzierungen am Korpus ausgestattet, während der Mahagonihals mit Perlmutteinlagen und einer Kopfplatte aus kambodschanischem Palisander verziert ist.
Dieser Martin D42 wurde 2007 gebaut und ist in ausgezeichnetem Zustand. Die Gitarre hat leichte Spielspuren an der Decke und am Schlagbrett sowie einige kleine Beulen. Es gibt auch leichte Spielspuren und ein paar Dellen auf der Rückseite des Halses, aber ansonsten ist die Gitarre sehr sauber. In der Gitarre wurde außerdem ein K&K Pure Mini-Tonabnehmer verbaut, sowie ein Gurtknopf an der Ferse.
Die Gitarre wird mit TFOA-Pass in einem TKL-Hartschalenkoffer geliefert.
