Martin D45 Gene Autry Brazilian 1994

Most folks remember Gene Autry for being the ultimate Hollywood singing cowboy, starring in dozens of Western movies and being a major radio star before that, but we guitar geeks will immediately associate this name with the first Martin D45 ever produced in 1933. That year, Autry ordered the biggest, best and flashiest guitar Martin could make and this would become one of the 91 D45s made prior to WWII.

Sixty years later, in 1994, Martin offered a limited run of 66 D45's replicating Autry's original which can still be seen at the Autry Western Heritage Museum in Los Angeles. This is #39 of that batch, with an interior label signed by Gene and C.F. Martin IV. It is not only a tribute to Gene Autry, but also an accurate example of those early Martin dreadnought designs. For example, this guitar has a 12-fret slope-shoulder design instead of the 14-fret square shoulder model we know today. It also features a slotted headstock and wider nutwidth.

Besides just a couple small traces, this is a rare collector's item in excellent condition that looks remarkably clean! However, it would almost be a shame to leave this one in its case, because this is, as one might expect from a 12-fret dreadnought, a huge, warm and open sounding instrument with the unique character and richness provided by the Brazilian Rosewood. The fingerboard has been replaced and now displays the abalone snowflake inlay, however, the original fingerboard with 'Gene Autry' inlay is still included with the guitar.

Travels in a hardshell case with cites.
