Historisch gezien is de Paul's Guitar (net als de Modern Eagle daarvoor) een realisatie van Paul Reed Smith's laatste ontdekkingen op het gebied van klank. Paul specificeerde elke afspraak van dit instrument, van de houtselectie en het inlegontwerp tot de pickups.

Het Paul's Guitar model bevat ook PRS's TCI (Tuned Capacitance and Inductance) treble en bass pickups met twee mini-toggle switches waarmee spelers één of beide pickups in humbucking of true single coil mode kunnen zetten.
